There have been a lot of posts written on a variety of insane topics comparing SEO to everything else. “SEO VS Social Media Which is Better?”, “Is SEO Dead?”, “SEO VS PPC Which is Better?”, “SEO VS Content Marketing, Which is Better?”, etc. etc.
These titles and posts are completely ridiculous. My apologies if you’ve been writing these posts, but stop it. Seriously, stop. It’s pure clickbait. You have to know these posts make no sense.
No. SEO is not dead. It never will be. Let’s just get that one out of the way. If you write a post that asks that question, then you don’t know what SEO is.

What is SEO and why isn’t it dead?

“Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s unpaid results – often referred to as “natural,” “organic,” or “earned” results.”
That must have been written a long time ago, because the definition of SEO has evolved with the advent of so many new tools and technologies. But. even with that narrow definition, saying that SEO is dead is like saying that Google and other search engines have ceased to exist or that they no longer provide organic results.
As long as search engines do have organic results, even with that narrow definition, SEO will also exist. So, hopefully, we’re done with that whole Is SEO Dead thing.
How has SEO evolved to become more than that definition?
Everyone who does SEO has had to evolve is more accurate. Simply ranking well in the organic results no longer drives as much traffic as it used to. Google and other search engines want you to buy ads. They run a business. They have to make a profit.
Some people divide the definitions up and call paid search optimization SEM or Search Engine Marketing, but I don’t know very many people who do SEO that don’t also do SEM.
With social media marketing thrown into the mix, the majority of SEO experts also include those services as part of the whole package. PPC or Pay-Per-Click Advertising management is also a term that used to apply only to the part where you managed paid ads through the search engines.
But now, since social media platforms now offer PPC ads, website cards, sponsored, boosted and promoted posts, PPC management applies to all of those as well.
And Search Engine Optimization VS Content Marketing?
Content has always been a large part of SEO. Sharing content has always been a large part of SEO. Posting content and linking back to your website has always been a large part of SEO.
So, there is no way to compare the two, since content marketing is part of any good SEO plan.
And SEO VS Anything Else?
SEO experts have always used the best tools available to help businesses get more traffic, get more leads and convert more sales. Everything you see Search engine optimization compared to is just another tool that SEO experts use to get the job done.
Hope this clears up the debate, but it probably won’t, because people want to write something with a title you’ll click on and unfortunately these type of posts get clicked on.
